Dental Exams

A dental exam involves an oral cancer screening, x-rays, assessing the gum health, and evaluating the individual teeth as well as the bite. Oral health may impact your systemic health, so it is important to know the condition of your teeth and gums. During your dental exam we would like to know what is important to you about your teeth.  Feel free to address any concerns or share any past experiences so we can better tailor your appointments.

Our modern technology is equipped with a 3D intraoral scanner, which allows us to show you what we see and better demonstrate both issues as well as progress. Whether it has been six months or six years, schedule your exam and see how we cater to those with dental anxiety a different way, the Modern Day Dental way.

Dental Hygiene & Cleaning

Regular dental hygiene treatment is essential to keep your gums and teeth healthy. Upon your dental exam, we will assess your periodontal health. In healthy mouths, the gum tissue should be firmly attached to the tooth. Bleeding gums are a concern and should be checked by a dental professional for periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is mainly the result of infections and inflammation in the gums and bone surrounding teeth. If left unchecked, it can lead to teeth falling out, recession, swelling, bad breath, tooth sensitivity, and a host of other problems.

According to the CDC, 47.2% of adults aged 30 years and older have some form of periodontal disease. Periodontal disease increases in prevalence with age, 70.1% of adults 65 years and older have periodontal disease. This has been shown to have links to systemic health as your gums are the first entrance into your bloodstream.

Modern Day Dental offers a range of hygiene services catered to each patient’s gum health. Regular visits combined with dental check-ups and looking after your teeth and gums at home will greatly improve the appearance of your teeth and your oral health.

We also offer conscious sedation options for those who have more severe dental anxiety. Schedule your appointment to inquire more about these options and see how we do things a different way, the Modern Day Dental way.

Oral Cancer Screening

The mouth is a very personal space and your dentist is often the only one to see inside other than yourself if you notice something unusual. There can be a host of things that can occur inside that mouth ranging from variants of normal to oral cancer and many things in between. Oral cancer screenings are performed to ensure nothing suspicious arises. If you happen to notice something unusual, don’t wait, schedule your exam at Modern Day Dental and put your mind at ease.

Fluoride Treatment

Dentists and medical professionals agree fluoride has been shown to greatly reduce dental cavities. Fluoride treatment helps prevent tooth decay and other oral health issues in people of all ages. Dental cavities form when bacteria ingest sugars and they produce acid which erodes teeth and leads to cavities. Fluoride helps the teeth become more resistant to that tooth erosion. Fluoride may even help reverse teeth with early caries lesions as well as help with sensitivity. If you have sensitivity, extensive crowns and other dental work, or are prone to cavities, ask if fluoride treatment is right for you.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are tooth colored resin coatings that infiltrate the deep grooves in the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. These areas are deeply grooved and allow food and plaque to easily settle and cause tooth decay. A sealed tooth is far less likely to develop a cavity, since it will act as a barrier in between food and seal deep grooves of the tooth. It will prevent more expensive dental treatment later on, for those who are susceptible to cavities.

Night Guards

Night guards are indicated when there are signs of clenching, cracked or worn teeth, TMJ problems and grinding. Our customized night guards have an intimate fit and upon delivery your bite is checked to ensure proper load distribution. Custom night guards can help prevent future dental problems, and protect your teeth and TMJ from damage while you sleep. If you grind your teeth, your night guard will act as a barrier to help protect your teeth from damaging each other.

At Modern Day Dental, we will create a custom night guard using a digital scan of your mouth which is then 3D printed to make your night guard. Your dentist and dental assistant can ensure a comfortable, secure fit with proper bite alignment. With proper care and storage, your custom mouth guard will help protect your teeth and dental work as well as your TMJ.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a disorder that occurs when a person’s breathing is regularly interrupted during sleep. People with untreated sleep apnea stop breathing many times during sleep, sometimes hundreds of times during the night, and can seriously impact overall health. Ask your primary care doctor for a sleep test if you think you may suffer from sleep disorders.

There are various treatments for Sleep apnea. Ask your dentist about MADs or mandibular advancement devices. When worn at night, the mouthpieces reposition your jaw to keep the airway open while you sleep. These dental devices can considerably improve your sleep quality and prevent snoring. Convenient and non-invasive, sleep apnea dental appliances can provide an alternative over traditional OSA treatments such as CPAPs.

Sports & Mouth Guards

Teeth can be lost from cavities, gum disease, or from trauma. Custom-made mouthguards gently hug your teeth and stay securely in place due to their customized fit. This helps prevent the front teeth from taking all the forces from something such as a sports injury. It evenly distributes the load so there are less chances of knocking your front tooth out or damaging it. At Modern Day Dental, we take a 3d Intraoral scan to make a customized well fitting mouth guard which evenly distributes the forces, unlike over the counter guards.

Many patients think that mouthguards are only for contact sports where athletes may be hitting or running into each other, such as hockey & football. However, there are dozens of sports for which we recommend sports guards, some of which are considered “solo” or non-contact sports. For example, we recommend sports guards for volleyball, soccer, gymnastics, mountain biking & rollerblading as well.
